Are Police Trained For Deaf People
There do seem to be many known instances where the police have managed to screw things up when it comes to deaf people but why is this. Something that makes all of the difference is the time of day, when a police officer shines the light into a deaf persons car it gets even worse. Not all deaf people can read the lips despite the fact that many people can, so just take this into consideration. Even if they a good a situation like this would be impossible because the light is stopping them from being able to see. So what does a deaf person do in this situation?
Well they would reach over and try to get the piece of information that states they are deaf, or perhaps reach for a hearing aid or something like that. If the officer has no idea what the person is bending down to try and reach they will begin to get a bit suspicious and then take out the sidearm that they carry. If a deaf person is bending over and facing the other way whilst the officer is shouting at them then you may see what could happen.
To be fair I do see it from the police officers point of view, they have no idea what the person is reaching for, they could in fact not be going after their hearing aid but a gun or a knife and sometimes it just isn’t worth risking to wait and see. Police officers simply need a small bit of training when it comes to a situation like this, it would easily sort things out.
If you are thinking that your hearing is starting to fall a bit then you might want go and get yourself looked at. You could look into getting hearing protection for musicians to be on the safe side. Go and get yourself a hearing aid assessment.
